Opening in Spring 2016, we are a family run florist based in the historic town of Barton-upon-Humber.
After being a teacher for 20+ years it was time for me to try something different. My Dad was a horticulturalist and his vast knowledge about flowers and plants was shared with me throughout my childhood and beyond. Being inspired by my parents love for all things flowery I started dabbling with flowers in my spare time.
After doing my Daughter’s wedding flowers I realised my passion and natural flair could develop into something that would not only be fulfilling but also could create a lovely family business.
My training began in the UK School of Floristry with Joseph Massie, a well-known award winning international floral artist based in Liverpool. We wanted weddings to be a big part of the business so endeavoured to find the best wedding floristry courses within the UK. This has given us the confidence to develop our own style and ideas whilst still having the basics in the bag. We continue to refresh our skills and develop our own style, keeping abreast of current trends. Following this I knew that I needed to gain retail experience within a floristry business, so volunteered in a popular flower shop to gain some hands-on experience within a very busy florist.
Flash forward to the 6th April 2016, and The Flower Garden was born.
Let me introduce you to the family…..
I am busy Mummy to three beautiful babies and like many Mums I really needed a job which would be flexible. Like my lovely Granny and Grampy, I have always loved all things natural and adore flowers. When my Momma told me she had decided to start her own floristry business, I couldn’t be more excited!
I too started training at the UK School of Floristry and found I had a real natural talent for floral design. We all love working together and it’s such a great feeling being able to involve my little family in the business, hopefully passing on the family love for all things flowery.
I had worked in the hospitality industry for nearly 15 years prior to joining Mum and Katie at the shop. I always loved coming in to lend a hand on the big occasions such as Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day. When my husband and I moved back to the area, it was an easy decision to join the family business which we are all so proud of. I found I also had a natural flair for floristry, picking up the skills needed quickly.
As well as whipping up floral lovelies, I also use my vast experience to help manage the shop’s business side.
